BALTIC 60 OPS 5

The aim of this 60-footer was to create a truly dual-purpose boat optimised for both cruising and racing.

Designed by judel/vrolijk Ops 5 was commissioned to perform well under both the IMS rule, popular in the Mediterranean at the time, and also under IRC which had a broader following.

Judel/vrolijk drew a relatively narrow boat with plumb ends to take advantage of waterline length, but without the somewhat ungainly slab-sided shape that had become predominant under the IMS rule.

As with so many yachts of this era, Ops had to perform just as well as a cruising yacht. Equipment including the air-conditioning unit, watermaker and anchor windlass were designed so that they could be removed easily when the yacht was in competition mode.

With a marginally overlapping jib, swept spreaders for close-hauled trimming and a powerful sailplan, this yacht was optimised for light to moderate Mediterranean style conditions.
