ICONIC BALTIC YACHTS GATHER FOR 50TH ANNIVERSARY REGATTA
30 August 2023
A 29-strong fleet of yachts, together with several hundred guests and crew will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of Baltic Yachts as a special version of the company’s iconic Rendezvous Regatta gets underway in Porto Rotondo, Sardinia on 14 September.
Twenty-five Baltic-built yachts ranging from the 1976 Baltic 33 Velite to the Baltic 152 Scorpione of London (previously Pink Gin) will line up for the Baltic Yachts’ 50th Anniversary Rendezvous alongside four ‘Friends of Baltic’, all of which have undergone major refits under the auspices of Baltic Yachts’ Service & Refit operation. Up to 40 owners of yachts launched by Baltic will be among the guests.
The Baltic Yachts Rendezvous will make a welcome return to Yacht Club Porto Rotondo on Sardinia’s exclusive Costa Smeralda to enjoy four days of relaxed sailing and onshore events at Porto Rotondo.
Porto Rotondo YC will organise the sailing, which will involve two days of sailing in company on traditional courses. Doyle Sails and North Sails will host one day each. Ashore, the event will kick-off with a welcome cocktail at the beach bar on Thursday September 14 where cannapés with a Finnish twist and our famous Pink Gin cocktail will be served.
The regatta will include a Sardinian style dinner party on Friday 15 September, a paddleboard competition, showings of daily video footage and a prize-giving dinner on Saturday September 16.
The final day, Sunday September 17, will celebrate ten years of Professor Hans Georg Näder’s involvement with Baltic Yachts and we are arranging a fun treasure hunt at sea, which will conclude with a relaxed beach barbecue.
In the five decades since Baltic Yachts was founded in Jakobstad, Finland, the company has built almost 600 yachts starting with a range of high-quality production yachts. This led to a move into the superyacht arena as clients looked for the customisation, high quality and excellent sailing performance embodied in the company’s mission statement of lighter, stiffer, faster, greener – together. Today, Baltic Yachts is regarded as the world leader in advanced carbon composite super-sailing yacht construction.
The first Baltic Yachts Rendezvous was staged in 1991 in Porto Santo Stephano on Italy’s Tuscan coast and this year marks the 12th running of the event.
