CELEBRATING OUR 50TH ANNIVERSARY

14 July 2023

Our Jakobstad facility was transformed into a spectacular party venue on June 29 to mark our 50th anniversary for an event attended by 500 guests.

On a day blessed with perfect mid-summer weather and the setting of a magnificent midnight sun, the Baltic family spent the afternoon visiting our most recent launches, the Baltic 110 Zemi, and the re-furbished Baltic 46 Queen Anne, the very first yacht built by Baltic back in 1974.

Guests mingled on the dock whilst being entertained by local musicians. They enjoyed the famous local cinnamon buns and artisan ice cream before moving into the production hall where they were able to see two of our current yachts in build, the revolutionary Baltic 111 Raven, nearing completion, and the hull of the Baltic 80 Custom.

There was also the opportunity to visit our new production halls where an anniversary exhibition and interactive workstations provided an idea of just how far Baltic Yachts has come in its first 50 years. Guests tried on virtual and augmented reality glasses to experience being aboard a Baltic yacht and visited workstations exhibiting some of our recent innovations in electric propulsion, 3D printing, custom hatch and cleat manufacturing, sustainability, the use of ‘green’ materials like flax and bamboo and how we remain at the leading edge of light-weight building.

A musical procession heralded the start of our production hall party with CEO Anders Kurtén on a champagne bicycle and Head of Projects Patric Brännbacka with a wheelbarrow of beer leading the way! The big doors slowly opened to reveal a boat building hall transformed into party central, a giant screen, dramatic lighting, oil drum tables, ice filled pallet crates, champagne and an array of delicacies from local restaurants setting the scene along with a local jazz band.

A fantastic party was interspersed with speeches from Baltic’s owner Professor Näder and Anders Kurtén, while a couple of tribute videos were shown to recognise a few of those who have contributed to our success.

The Big Baltic Birthday cake arrived to the accompaniment of a unique trumpet fanfare specially composed for the occasion. And then, with the formalities over, the night moved on to a brilliant 1970s set of rock and pop from legendary names like ABBA, Queen and Earth, Wind and Fire with great performances by 13 local musicians including seven soloists.

As the production hall doors opened to reveal a perfect midnight sunset, the completion of Baltic Yachts’ first 50 years was celebrated in style with the prospect of further festivities at our anniversary regatta, the Baltic Yachts Rendezvous, due to be held in Porto Rotondo, Sardinia from 14-17 September.
