Nilaya defending Bucket title as six Baltics line up in St Barths

15 March 2019

Baltic 112 Nilaya will be out to defend her St Barths Bucket overall title and Class win in 2018 as she is joined by no fewer than five Baltics at the world’s leading superyacht regatta which runs from 21-24 March.

Interestingly, all six yachts will be competing in the same class, Les Gazelles des Mers, making a fascinating regatta within a regatta. The six Baltics will be joined in Class A by the 33.4m Vitters-built Inoui.

In addition to Nilaya, which won all three races in 2018, the competing Baltics are the 218ft ketch Hetairos, the largest yacht in the fleet, Baltic 130 My Song, Baltic 175 Pink Gin, Baltic 147 Visione, which came second in class behind Nilaya last year and the highly successful Baltic 108 WinWin.

The fleet of 34 yachts, divided into six classes will race over three days, circumnavigating the island of St Barthelemy firstly eastabout and on the last day westabout with what is known as The Wiggly Course sandwiched between them on day two.

With many of the fleet moored stern-to in Gustavia, The St Barths Bucket provides one of the most stunning superyacht spectacles in the world and if the trade winds are in good fettle the sailing off the island is regarded as some of the finest on offer.
