BALTIC YACHTS COMMISSIONED TO BUILD 68FT CUSTOM REICHEL/PUGH PERFORMANCE CRUISER
21 June 2018
An order for a 68ft Reichel/Pugh-designed, carbon composite, performance custom cruiser has further strengthened the order book at Baltic Yachts.
The yacht is intended for short-handed long-distance offshore cruising with the ability to comfortably overnight at weekend destinations. While comfort and aesthetics are the priority, the owner also wants a performance design that can excel on the racecourse. The result is a hi-tech composite structure that will no-doubt provide a highly-rewarding sailing experience. She is being fitted with an attractive, modern interior which will be designed and built by Baltic Yachts with input from Reichel/Pugh. Reichel/Pugh President Jim Pugh explained:
“The all-carbon composite, fixed keel, twin-rudder sloop with a provision for a square-top main will ensure an exceptional performance on the race course. A captive winch-controlled mainsheet and powered winches provide safe and easy sail handling while cruising.”
Weight control is key
Key to the project will be weight control with the extensive use of resin infused carbon laminates helping to keep light ship weight down to 24.2 tons. Features include a large transom door to provide a swimming platform, a fixed carbon bowsprit for Code and asymmetric sails, an 8-ton keel and an all carbon rig.
Accommodations include an owner’s double with an en-suite bathroom and head, two double guest cabins and two forward crew berths.
Delivery October 2019
Construction will take just 13 months with delivery in October 2019 in time for the 2020 Caribbean regatta and cruising season. Reichel/Pugh and Baltic Yachts are collaborating on the interior design and styling. Structural engineering will be by Gurit. Baltic Yachts’ Sales Director Marcus Jungell, said:
“The Baltic 68 Custom Reichel/Pugh Performance Cruiser will be a very comfortable yacht with a performance edge. Baltic Yachts will be capitalising on its experience from previous successful projects and is working very closely with the customer to build a yacht providing the perfect balance for him.”
With their world-renowned carbon composite building and engineering experience, the Reichel/Pugh team, Baltic Yachts and Gurit are very much looking forward to working together in developing this project with a client who is an accomplished yachtsman.
