Baltic
67
In the
spring of 1996, the Baltic 67 was shipped down to the Mediterranean
where later it was rigged and launched in Italy. Through the summer
season of sailing in 1996 this yacht showed an incomparable level
of sailing performance.
The original
philosophy for this project was to design and build a very comfortable
and high quality cruising yacht that would be lighter and faster
than any other "full interior" yacht of the same size. The concept
was worked out in co-operation between the owner, R&J Design
and Baltic Yachts. Bruce Farr did the Naval Architecture for the
project.
The philosophy
and idea of the project was achieved by using extremely high technology
in form of materials and methods. Pre-preg carbon was used in all
applications with the addition of Aramide in the outer skin of the
hull. These laminates were cured during 20 hour period under
vacuum and high temperatures, conditions of 85°C (185 Fahrenheit).
Some of
the "performance features" on the boat were:
The interior
was built up from light sandwich panels with just a thin teak veneer
on all visible surfaces.
We had
very high expectations for this yacht regarding the target weight
and the performance, so we were absolutely thrilled that she managed
to meet all our requirements and more.
