Baltic 60
The main
goal with this project was to develop a high quality, high performance
cruiser/racer with a higher level of performance than normally found
in this category of sailing yachts. The way to achieve the performance
was to build the yacht lighter then traditionally expected from
similar types of yachts. The only way to achieve the weight saving
without compromising on the cruising comfort and equipment was to
utilize high technology materials and methods in the design and
building process of the yacht.
The hull
and deck plus main bulkheads were built in Isopthalic / Aramid /
UD-glass laminates resulting in a substantial weight saving compared
to conventional materials and methods. In order to reach a high
stability with a moderate draft and with a moderate ballast weight,
a casted/welded keel fin was opted for with a lead bulb. The welded/casted
keel fin allowed for a much lighter fin and this allowed for higher
bulb weight all resulting in a low ballast CG.
The interior
layout had to offer very comfortable cruising facilities for the
owner and his family plus for occasional guests. However the main
bulkheads and main paneling were made from sandwich construction,
giving more strength and saving even more on the total weight.
Although this is a custom project, two
were actually built based on the same hull and deck design. The
interior layout and equipment specification were tailor made and
varied greatly between the two projects. Boat no 1 was launched
in the spring of 1998 and no 2 1999. Both yachts are based and mostly
sailing in the Mediterranean.
